Bible Black Remake
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android
Hi everyone!
I am a huge fan of visual novels, and Bible Black is one of my all-time favorites. However, the game is quite dated — it runs at 640x480 resolution and often has compatibility issues on modern systems. That’s why I decided to create a modernized version of this classic.
What I’m Doing:
- Recreating the original script in the Ren’Py engine, preserving the official translation (with typos fixed) and the original voice acting. All transitions and animations will stay as faithful to the original as possible.
- Expanding all backgrounds (BGs) and illustrations (CGs) to 1920x1080 resolution. I use non-generative AI for upscaling (no new details!) and generative AI for extending some images artwork (filling empty spaces).
- Recreating the UI: In general, I use modern Ren'Py UI, but most UI elements are taken from the original game to preserve the style.
- Gallery (sprites, artworks, scenes) and music player will be available in the final version, as it was in the original game.
- Multi-platform support: The current build is available for Windows, Linux, Mac and Android

As someone who normally opposes most AI/LLM usage in general, this is one of if not the best uses for it. That I'd get to see Active-Soft era Sei Shoujo art remastered in HD and done this tastefully I commend you. Hopefully we get to see Discipline and maybe even Heartworks in 16:9 1080p one day.
Will you be doing specific stuff for android like gestures or stuff like that for Android as it would be interesting?
I just use standart pipeline for Renpy Android builds tbh. Do you have any problems with enabled gestures on phone?
They usually work fine but the biggest issue is naturally text size and not being able to see the images behind it as android devices are smaller than a PC so it could be harder to read the text.
There is a button in the star menu to hide the interface, this may help with the first problem. And I can add text size settings, I think the problem depends on the screen DPI, the text is perfectly readable on my phone.
That would be a cool option or something to possible make the text bolder so it's more visible compared to say lighter backgrounds which might make the text harder to see?
Can you show me a screenshot with text that is difficult to read because of the light background? I think the background of the textbox is quite dark and opaque.
I’m curious, how exactly will AI be used to fill in empty spaces, are there any examples?
